Shelter

Shelter

The past couple of years I have become a fan of those shows where a guy or two, or a man and his wife are put out in the wilderness and have to survive with just a few things they have with them. I do not enjoy watching them eat some of the things they choose to eat, but I suppose if I were to get hungry enough I could do the same. I do enjoy watching them always try to construct some kind of shelter before the night comes. I think even in the best of climates, we as humans realize the need for shelter when the night comes. This fall the Wednesday morning ladies class will look at The Shelter of God’s Promises. The books will be in the office by this weekend and we invite all ladies interested to come and be blessed by our study.

One of my favorite songs growing up, (and still is today) was Standing on the Promises. We know because God says so, we can always count on His promises! So we sing with confidence of standing on the promises of God. I know from my own experiences when the weather is good, the seas are calm, I don’t spend too much time thinking about shelter. The time comes when darkness or bad weather descends and I really understand the need for the shelter of God’s promises! It’s those times I begin to wonder if maybe God has forgotten me! Of course I know He hasn’t, but I may need to be reminded on a regular basis of God’s promises of protection and deliverance. We will spend the next few months searching scripture for what God has promised, what those promises mean and how Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the greatest promise God has made to us. God has been providing shelter for a long time to His people. He has promised to do the same for us. A long time ago God said this to one of His prophets, "There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.”

God promises to place us where there is shelter. It will always be a place near Him, A promised place where we can stand. Come and join us each Wednesday morning at 10 am as we seek the Shelter of God’s promises! I love you all.      Philip
